Hot Doug's
Doug Sohn makes some of the most unusual hot dogs and sausages you will ever have. The small restaurant is both an encased meat emporium and a sausage superstore.
Xoco
Rick Bayless' couter service spot with fantastic wood-grilled sandwiches, housemade churros and espresso drinks.
Hop Leaf
A great Andersonville gastropub with a huge beer list. A pioneer in craft beer bars.
Long Room
One of my favorite Chicago bars. 12-tap draft list is constantly changing. You can often find beers on tap here that you will not find anywhere else in Chicago.
Map Room
A great Bucktown bar with a huge tap list. Much beloved, but also often crowded.
The Violet Hour
This classy Wicker Park spot is often thought of as one of the best craft cocktail bars in the nation.
The Whistler
A tiny hole in the wall in Logan Square is turning out some of the best Cocktails in Chicago. Their bartenter recently won an award from Food + Wine.

Great web app from the CTA that will tell you when the next L train will arive at a selected stop.
Buster
Great app that tracks the GPS locations of CTA busses to tell you when the next one will arrive.
Time Out Chicago
Time Out Chicago's iPhone app has a good rundown of Chicago bars and restaurants. The app is location-aware and you can filter by Critic's Picks.
